FAQs
When should we start the college counseling process?
Every student’s journey is different, which is why there’s no single “right” timeline. That said, the most successful outcomes tend to come when we begin working together by sophomore or junior year of high school. Starting early allows us to thoughtfully shape academic choices, extracurricular involvement, and long-term goals—rather than rushing decisions senior year.
How do you help students choose the right colleges?
College fit is about much more than rankings. I take time to truly understand each student—their interests, learning style, values, and aspirations. From there, we build a balanced list of colleges where the student can thrive academically, socially, and personally, not just gain admission.
What makes your college counseling approach different?
I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all advice. My approach is highly personalized and relationship-based. I work closely with students to uncover their authentic story and help them present it in a compelling, genuine way—so their applications reflect who they truly are, not who they think colleges want them to be.
How do you help with college application essays?
Great essays aren’t about sounding impressive—they’re about being real. I guide students through a structured brainstorming and drafting process that helps them identify meaningful experiences, find their voice, and craft essays that feel authentic, reflective, and memorable. Feedback is thoughtful and collaborative, never generic or formulaic.
How important are extracurricular activities?
Extracurriculars matter, but depth and impact matter far more than quantity. I help students strategically evaluate their activities, identify leadership or growth opportunities, and align their involvement with their interests and long-term goals. Colleges value commitment and authenticity—not résumé padding.
Do you help students who aren’t “top of the class”?
Absolutely. Success in college admissions isn’t limited to students with perfect GPAs or test scores. I work with students across a wide academic range, helping each one highlight their strengths, growth, and potential while identifying colleges where they can be successful and confident.
How do you support families during the process?
College admissions can be stressful for both students and parents. I serve as a trusted guide for the entire family—providing clarity, realistic expectations, and steady communication throughout the process. My goal is to reduce anxiety and create a collaborative, supportive experience.
Do you help with application strategy and timelines?
Yes. I create a clear, customized application plan for each student, including deadlines, application types (Early Action, Early Decision, Regular Decision), and school-specific strategies. This keeps students organized, on track, and confident throughout senior year.
Can you help with test-optional and holistic admissions?
Definitely. With many colleges using holistic review and test-optional policies, it’s more important than ever to present a strong overall application. I help students understand how admissions offices evaluate candidates and how to strategically highlight academic performance, personal qualities, and experiences.
What is the ultimate goal of college counseling?
My goal isn’t just college acceptance—it’s college success. I want students to land at schools where they feel challenged, supported, and excited to grow. When students understand themselves and make intentional choices, college becomes a launching point—not just a destination.
